I was supposed to fly home today @ 2pm buuuuuutttttt I missed my flight and now I'm waiting on standby for the next one, so I figured what better time than now to blogggggggg! Today I videotaped the lecture given by Sister Miriam Theresa Macgillis that was held at the convocation hall. I really enjoyed her lecture and I think I can definitely use different aspects of it in my documentary. Oh by the way the lecture was about cosmology and environmental sustainability......... Anyways, after the lecture I asked her if I would be able to visit her organic farm and do some filming there and she said yes and then I asked her if she would let me do a filmed interview with her and she said yes. So I'm excited about that.....now all I have to do is figure out when I'm going to be going up to Philadelphia again and it probably wouldn't hurt if I made my flight today.  :)

Double question: Do you have a dog or go to the movies ?
Wrong answer choice: Do you live in a nice area?
Cover the world question: Are people in America healthy?
Jargon question: Do leading questions affect the outcome of an interview?
Kitchen sink: What do you spend your time doing?
Dream question: What did you want to be when you were younger?
Leading question: What kind of processed food do you buy?
Hearsay questions: Why do people buy processed over organic?
Fallout question:
Do you shop at Publix?
If yes, do you buy processed food?
If yes, do you ever feel sick?

SWEET! I just checked my e-mail and I received a response e-mail from a holistic medical nutrition therapist/wellness coach that I had e-mailed last Friday (sorry I didn't CC you(Kevin) on the e-mail- it was before I knew we had to CC you). She wrote that she's booked this week but is interested in working out a time for us to get together. Yes! I'm soooooo excited I'm glad she e-mailed me back. I haven't heard back from the meat processing plant I e-mailed around the same time though......I might have to get a little persistent hehehe

Today I scheduled my VERY first interview. It’s going to be with a personal trainer. I really want to find out whether organic or processed food is more beneficial in the realm of athletics and fitness (obviously organic is but I want to hear it straight from the horse’s mouth). Also I think I will be able to gather a lot of information regarding a person’s metabolism and whether or not processed food is dealt with differently in the body and by the metabolism. I think this particular person will be a really great source considering he has a background in sports and fitness and he knows a ton about the body’s ability to break down nutrients, build muscle and burn fat (or vice versa). With all of this talk about metabolism and muscles and fat I’m starting to think interviewing a biology professor at STU may not be a bad idea…..I’m getting really psyched about filming all of my research, I’m having so much fun brainstorming about all the details I want to include in it i.e. background music, locations, people, etc. (Did I use the comma after research right? I’m still struggling with my sprinkles a tiny bit : )

Today I interviewed K, we talked about where she grew up and all the wonderful things that go along with childhood and where one grows up. She has lived in D her whole life but has moved to different areas within D. She has a big family just like me. She went to a big high school with about 5,000 (damn that’s a lot of kids) but went to a small middle school with about 17 kids in her 8th grade class. She played volleyball and was a part of the student government organization in high school and graduated with a class of 1,000. She has always had the same goal in mind- to do law and has recently become interested in pursuing international law after being inspired from some of her classes dealing with international matters. She plans to go to Columbia U. or NYU for law school and no doubt will accomplish that goal. She has the intelligence and drive to achieve all of her law school/career dreams and will surely have a positive effect on the world.

This morning I watched the movie "King Corn" as part of my research for today (I decided I would research a little bit each day-super organized eh lol). It's a documentary that follows two college grads., Curt Ellis and Ian Cheney, into the heart of agriculture in America-Greene, Iowa, where they farm corn on an acre of land in hopes they will be able to trace it's route through the American food distribution chain. There are a lot of really disturbing facts covered in this documentary. I would highly suggest/recommend this film to anyone that consumes food distributed in America- you have the right to know what exactly your putting into your body (for all of you that live off your own homegrown supply of food- your off the hook! hehehe). It really shocked me that so much of our food has corn in it. It also freaked me out that the type of corn Ian and Curt grew (along with all the corn that is grown for commercial distribution in Iowa) is not actually for eating and therefore the farmers growing these crops can not even feed their family with it- it is grown primarily to act as a filler or sweetener for other food products. Another disturbing fact- the cattle raised on feed lots to be slaughtered and eventually end up packaged in the meat section of a food store are fed corn. Their stomaches are not made for an all corn diet and as a result many develop acidosis and if not treated die. In order to avoid losing cattle too early or not being able to use their meat due to a disease- cattle farmers have managed to avoid acidosis stricken cattle by putting antibiotics in their feed- livestock consumes 70% of antibiotics in the U.S. In addition the amount of saturated fat found in the meat from corn fed cattle is 9grams! In grass fed cattle its 1.3 grams.- And we wonder why America has such a problem with obesity......Anyways as much as I feel like I could keep writing about this documentary- I'm not going to. Have an excellente night everyone!
